The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians of Michigan and Indiana has sworn in newly elected tribal council members on August 8, 2026. The updated leadership roster includes a new treasurer and three members at large.
Council Composition and Gaming Oversight
John Morseau now holds the treasurer position after previously serving as a member at large. James Gideon Jr., Alex Wesaw, and Steven Winchester were elected to fill the remaining member at large seats. Wesaw transitions from the treasurer role, while Winchester returns to the council following a brief absence. The tribal council operates with eleven seats, with citizens voting for staggered three-year terms. Any adult band citizen meeting constitutional standards may run for office.Council members simultaneously serve on the Pokagon Gaming Authority, which manages operations at Four Winds Casinos. The remaining councilors continuing their current terms are chairman Matthew Wesaw, vice chairman Gary Morseau Sr., secretary Sam Morseau, members at large Erin Burggraf, Anita Morales, and Mark Topash, along with elders representative John P.
Warren. Outgoing members Andrew Bennett and Victor Warren concluded their three-year terms and declined re-election.
Chairman Matthew Wesaw acknowledged the departing officials and noted the incoming appointments. "I would like to thank outgoing members at large, Andrew Bennett and Victor Warren for their years of service," Wesaw stated. "Both want the best for our people and have worked hard serving as elected officials advocating for our Pokagon citizens.
I fully expect them to stay engaged." He added that he anticipates close collaboration with the council on tribal priorities. In July 2026, Four Winds Ventures named Kathy George as chief executive officer.
